Arne Slot reveals when Liverpool move will be made official

Arne Slot has revealed he expects Liverpool to confirm him as their new head coach in a ‘matter of days’.

Liverpool have been on the hunt for a successor to Jurgen Klopp, who revealed to the club privately in November that he planned to step aside at the end of the season. He then made his decision public in January.

Several young coaches, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim, had been linked to the job, but Feyenoord boss Slot is in line to join the Reds this summer instead.

Slot has made no secret of his desire to replace Klopp, though has recently changed his tune and held back on making further comments until an agreement with Liverpool is finalised.

Nevertheless, he provided an update at a press conference on Friday regarding when the club plan to announce his arrival.

“It’s not quite done yet, but it will be a matter of days,” Slot said. “It takes more than a simple shopping list and going to the store. These kinds of things have to be timed properly. It hasn’t been communicated yet, but don’t worry, it will undoubtedly happen soon.”

Reports in recent weeks have explained that Slot’s title at Liverpool will be ‘head coach’ rather than ‘manager’ as the club continue their internal restructuring.

Transfer guru Michael Edwards is in charge of footballing operations again as Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) CEO of football. He has welcomed back Julian Ward, who succeeded him as Liverpool’s sporting director in 2022 before stepping aside a year later, to FSG as their technical director, while Benfica’s Pedro Marques will take the role of director of football development.

Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes, who has been close with Edwards for over 20 years, has been sworn in as Liverpool’s new sporting director, replacing short-term appointment Jorg Schmadtke.
